A snapshot of the decor at a cafe down the road from work that our clinical educator took us to for a meeting over some coffee.
Hello from Mackay! It's already been 2 weeks since I touched down in this city, and what an experience it has been so far. Never mind that it has been the most hectic two weeks that I have experienced so far this year, because I feel like all the new experiences definitely outweigh the exhaustion and lack of sleep during the past weeks.

I didn't really know what to expect out of Mackay. I have never visited the city and my only knowledge of it was from asking other people who have visited for work/placement. Not much happens around here. My friend and I went for a drive into the "city" (which looks more like Logan) on a Saturday and it was so quiet that I thought something was wrong. Most of the shops were closed and you would have to look hard to find somebody. But looking past the lack of activity in this city, everyone that I have met have been incredibly hospitable and I have come to really enjoy spending time with the people that I have met.  They're definitely people I will not be forgetting anytime soon.

The past two weeks have felt like starting full-time work. With a pretty tight caseload each day from 8 - 4 pm, I come home quite exhausted and just want to eat and sleep if it wasn't for the assignments and preparations that need to be done for the next day. Time seems to slip out of my hand like sand and it's a bit overwhelming sometimes. Being more independent has also made me appreciate things that I would normally overlook like getting the discount docket for petrol after spending $30+ on groceries, sleep-ins (even if it is until 7.30am) and finding sales on the groceries I need to get. It's quite amusing how happy I get when these things happen (and the petty disappointment when they don't happen).

I've had such little time to relax and I've missed blogging. But hopefully I will be able to share some photos from my trip to Cape Hillsborough National Park with the girls from the weekend soon. It was such a good day to be outside for a change; rather than being cooped up in my room in front of computer. Looking forward to more adventures on the weekends now that we have finished all uni assessments for the year! (woohoo)
