Day 3 consisted of a trip over to St Kilda and Brighton Beach (after some more shopping in the morning). We were hoping to ride our rented bikes from St Kilda to Brighton Beach but we admit that we were a little ambitious in this regard. But in the end, the day worked out better than we imagined. We were still able to see everything on our list and following great timing as well.
And so our day consisted of this:
1. A bike ride along the St Kilda beach and pier. It was the first time in a long time I had set myself on a bike and it was the most fun (even despite the difficulty of riding against the wind for some bit and trying to vlog and ride straight at the same time).
2. Obligatory photos in front of the iconic Luna Park. It looks just as exciting as it does in magazines...from the outside anyway. We decided not to go in because we thought it probably wouldn't be worth it.
3. A big detour to Brighton Beach. Because our plans of riding down to Brighton Beach had backfired, we resorted to frantically going onto the translink website and finding the fastest possible means to getting to the beach. We ended up doing the biggest detour - taking almost all forms of public transport (tram, bus, and two trains) but we got there in the end. And it was worth it.
4. Brighton Beach. I had been wanting to visit this beach ever since I saw photos of it years ago. It was quite a trek to get there and the beach is actually a lot smaller and more isolated than I thought, but those colourful houses dotted along the beach is a sight I won't be able to forget.
5. St Kilda Twilight Markets. This was where we ate THE MOST delicious chicken skewers. And also one of the best paellas I have had. Besides the food stalls, there were other various stalls selling clothes, leather bags, hand made goods etc. It was also where I got a henna tattoo - something I had always wanted to do.
6. Penguin sighting at the pier. We were expecting to see quite a show but after waiting for what felt like a very very long time, we decided that maybe tonight was not the night. We were also not dressed to brace the wind, so we decided to save ourselves from the cold and go back home. BUT, unexpectedly, it was on our way out which was when we sighted three penguins - one just chilling on the rocks and two nestled inside amongst some rocks. I guess good things comes to those who don't wait either :P
