As a way to belatedly celebrate a friend's birthday and to alleviate the exhaustion from the prior two weeks, my friends and I decided to visit Flute to enjoy for ourselves a catch up over lunch last Friday. It was the first time there for a few of us and it made a good first impression with the friendly service and generous portions. It was a little different to what I had expected, as it's not so much 'hipster' as it is more semi-fine dining. (But not that I was complaining).
The pumpkin soup that I ordered was also different to what I had anticipated. For one thing, it came in an overwhelmingly large bowl and the Thai inspired flavours are probably more of an acquired taste. I also had a bit of my friend's mushroom pasta as well and it was a bit too salty for my liking. All this was from their lunch menu though and judging from reviews, I have a feeling their breakfast menu might leave a better impression for me.
Next door to Flute is an equally popular patisserie and they sell the prettiest of cakes. While dining at Flute, I had perfect view of their cakes on display from where I was sitting. So naturally, after eyeing them for over an hour, I didn't want to leave without a few cakes to take home. They're a bit on the expensive side but considering their look and taste, the price is forgiveable. Their raspberry and coconut cheesecake was definitely a good pick.
