Seoul Searching // Day 1: Parks and Palaces

Before our trip, my sister did up a meticulous itinerary - including time to visit more historical sites and go to museums whilst leaving plenty of time for shopping and eating..activities to please both parties involved. Day 1 consisted of visiting various palaces - the first being Gyeongbokgung Palace. We arrived just in time to see the changing of the guards, which was a dramatic display of men dressed in traditional and colourful gowns marching around with solid expressions (more of that in a vlog I am hoping to whip up).

The palace was beautiful - with a lot of its history and structure preserved. We managed to weave around the maze of all the different sections and arrive at a beautiful scene of a pond coated with lily pads and inhabited by black and gold fish.

There were several palaces dotted around the city of Seoul (another was Deoksugung palace which we visited next) and they were all situated (a little out of place) amongst the high rises of the city which was a huge contrast of eras.

The next stop was the City Hall which was a rather impressive building with its vertical wall garden and mostly white steel and glass frame (the contrast made for really cool photos haha). Visiting the City Hall, I could not help but to be reminiscent of the episode of Running Man they filmed there...had a mild fan moment there.

Another impressive building we visited that day was the Dongdaemum History and Culture Park which was designed by Zaha Hadid (a super modern and distinct designer from what I remember from my design days). Inside were displays of designer products and art, a museum and some other quirky spaces.

Oh, and those food pictures. That's a Bulgogi Bibimbap on the left and Jajangmyeon on the right. Cannot go to Korean without trying the classics.
