Ignite Conference 2014 // Last week was a combination of being rewarding, confronting, exhausting and challenging. The whole week was spent with our head in God's word trying to get a grasp of what the Church was and is supposed to be like. Also it was also a great week meeting many people from different churches and such great sense of fellowship in which young people from different walks of life come together for the same purpose - of growing and learning in Christ.
The theme of the whole conference was 'Church Matters' and there were various speakers who were invited to speak, each with their own style but all very powerful in the message they were speaking about. Here are just some of the particularly challenging and/or encouraging take home points from the week:
- Unity in relationships is achieved through selflessness, humility and gentleness.
- Unity in relationships is achieved through selflessness, humility and gentleness.
- Gentleness is not for the weak. It is controlled power. We can so easily lash out at people or be insensitive, but gentleness is learning to control that.
- Always be patient, understanding and gracious to the faults and shortcomings of other people.
- The church is built through the people using their gifts in service.
- Heaven will be a place where we will be living with God and we will be able to see him face to face. This should be an encouragement to us now, knowing that we will end up in a place so much better than what we have now. We need to persevere and trust in Jesus! And we should not get too comfortable in this earthly bus stop!
- Joy comes from love that is implanted in Christ. Joy is a sign of genuine faith.
- Our identity is not what we do but is what God did for us.
- "To live is Christ, to die is gain" - to live is to live for Christ and to die is gain because death is not the worse thing for Christians since we will be going to a better place.
- Live for eternity not for the moment. Only what is done for Christ will last.
